Why should consumers enroll with NPS?

Can a resident use the NPS program just to get into an apartment and then discontinue services?

No, not unless the landlord agrees to change the conditions of the lease agreement, which insure that rent payments will be made regularly through NPS.

How do consumers qualify for the NPS program?

In order to receive services, consumers will have to demonstrate work histories that include weekly or bi-weekly paychecks from one or more employers. Their funds will have to be direct deposited continually to NPS in order to continue with the program.

Can residents try the service out without making a major commitment?

Many consumers would not qualify for an apartment lease without NPS. Therefore, they must continue with the program in order to stay in their apartments unless they make separate arrangements with their landlords. Residents can cancel NPS service at any time with out penalty from NPS, but they may incur a penalty from their landlord.

What if an individual does not have sufficient funds to pay their rent?

An email will be sent to notify landlords of any problems, as specified in the resident agreement with NPS. This notification will be far in advance of when the landlord would otherwise have been aware of the situation, creating the opportunity for open communications between the parties.

Is a resident automatically out of the program if they lose their job or switch jobs?

If a resident switches jobs, they can remain in the program so long as they move to a new job (employer) that utilizes a payroll system with direct deposit. Any further issues related to lapses in payments would have to be worked out between the resident and the landlord, with notification from both parties to NPS on how to proceed.

Will NPS intervene in a dispute between a resident and landlord?

NPS will notify you that a resident has a dispute and/or has requested that rent monies not be paid, but the company will not mediate a dispute between the parties. All other communications between you and your resident will remain unchanged.

What if a resident requests that their funds be withheld?

The company has a responsibility to hold the funds until a decision is made either by a court, you or the resident with written instruction to the company from the parties.

What happens if NPS releases money to me and then the resident demands their money back?

The resident has the right to request (either in writing or by phone) that their rent payment to you be withheld. They retain this right until the scheduled date that NPS transfers their funds or monthly rent payment. Once this occurs, any conflicts and disagreements over the sum are between your resident and you.
